As the in-house designer for Real English Drinks Distillery, I have the privilege of developing new spirits brands from the ground up. My work begins with collaborating closely with the master blender to craft a unique brand identity for each product. From there, I oversee the entire design process, which includes label and packaging design, specification documentation, promotional materials, point-of-sale designs, as well as marketing and sales collateral.
In 2022, the brand Pud was born after it was observed in the distillery group’s restaurants that toffee vodka consistently outperformed other spirits at the bar, often being served as a dessert accompaniment or alternative. Pud has since evolved into a range of dessert-flavored vodka liqueurs and is rapidly gaining recognition in a highly competitive market.
Pud launched with its signature Sticky Toffee Vodka Liqueur. The design concept revolves around simple, vibrant illustrations that evoke a sense of nostalgia and childhood memories. The 70 cl Apollo bottle was selected for its sleek, rounded shape and substantial base. The bottles were screen-printed with the Pud logo in a wraparound pattern using white ink, which creates a striking contrast against the colourful liquid inside. The logo was also featured on the heat-shrink cork closure, reinforcing a cohesive and impactful brand presence on the shelf.
To create the line artwork, I used Procreate on the iPad to draw the illustrations, which were then converted into vector files and refined in Adobe Illustrator. Here, the color palette was finalized, and the logo and typography were integrated. Label variations were designed to accommodate 70 cl, 20 cl, and 5 cl bottle sizes, ensuring consistency across the product range.
Initially, six dessert-inspired flavours were introduced, and the range has since expanded to include successful limited-edition seasonal flavours, perfect for events and gifting occasions.
